Description:
The Pax Julia Cine Theatre plays an important role regarding cultural activities in the area of Beja. The building was subjected to an overall rehabilitation intervention in order to address the limitations of the previous stage and its fly gallery, related to the degradation of timber elements and insufficient capacity. These situations led interventions complete renovation of the stage area. The rest of the structural building were sporadic in the trusses on the audience, in order to redress local deficiencies arising from the weight of the new cover (renewed in this work)
Main pathologies:
Degradation and functional deficiencies of the original stage. Insufficient bearing capacity of the roof above the audience.
Main interventions:
The interventions included the demolition of the stage and roof, and the replacement of the original structures with new ones.
The new stage solution is based on the previously existing general solutions - reticulated timber structures.
The new roof solution is composed of a steel solution, with a main truss and secondary beams. The masonry wall over the downstage was reinforced using two layers of reinforced concrete (one on each side of the wall), fixed to the masonry in order to constitute itself a hybrid concrete-masonry structure.
The intervention in the existing building also included the strengthening of steel trusses from the roof above the audience by adding new steel profiles
