Bridge on River Soure

Description:
Length 120.12 m (3 x 40.04 m). 5.20 m width deck constructed by continuous open-web steel beams of 5.775 m height and connected by cross beams and bracing systems. The deck rests on piers by movables supports, except for the 2nd support nearby Alfarelos being this one a hinged support. Masonry piers founded on caissons with a maximum depth of 19 m.
Main pathologies:
Resistance inadequate of the deck to new railway regulations. Deficient foundation of the piers. Corrosion of metallic elements.
Main interventions:
Deck structural strengthening and rehabilitation, introducing external prestress.
Implementation of cable anchorage block and respective foundations through micro-piles.
Strengthening piers foundations and abutments with micro-piles.
Painting of steel structure.
