CATÓDICA Project

Description:
The project aims to develop research in the field of Cathodic protection of reinforced concrete structures that are exposed to marine environment. The research includes laboratory studies on specimens of concrete depassivation by chloride action. This project also includes a pilot test on a structure subjected to the action of marine environment. The purpose of Cathodic Protection is to reduce or eliminate corrosion of the reinforcement, making the electrochemical potential of steel more negative, that is, Cathodic. The objective is to show that the solution is technically and economical effective to control corrosion and also to select the more suitable type of anode that serves the Portuguese coast surroundings.

SPIDER Project

Description:
This project focused on buildings seismic strenthening, through the introduction of energy devices, linked together with tendons, forming the DCS system (Damper Cable System). The program’s budget was of about one and half million Euros and involved many companies, universities and public bodies, joining an international consortium. The program included experimental and numerical analysis. To this end, prototypes and a full scale testing have been used.
